What college major would be best for a future career in the development of alternative energy sources?

How important would the best for working in clean technology companies or other alternative energy companies. I would say that some kind of engineering, but not specifically what type of engineering. Thanks.

Important would be the best Environmental Engineering, who comes to the environment, natural resources, consumerism, etc. Your second bet is chemical engineering, which deals with a detailed analysis of harmful chemicals to get rid of them, etc.
